Razor launches a seated cargo scooter for adults

Designed for older teens and even adult riders the Razor E300 electric scooter is one of razors fastest electric scooters and has a run time of up to 40 minutes of continuous use. Razor, the company that helped kick off the scooter craze over two decades ago, announced new, electrified versions of its classic kick scooter models. Segway has become as famous for their electric scooters as Razor became for its kids’ kick scooters.

But scooters have come a long way since the 90s when Razors first became popular. And electric scooters have especially evolved in the last few years. A devoted road and gravel cyclist and all-around gearhead, Josh has been riding and writing about electric scooters for the past five years. When Josh isn’t writing or wrenching, he’s usually out on the road…. In addition, recognizing the global shift towards sustainability, Razor has likewise emphasized eco-friendly products.

The first modern scooter, depending on the historical records you’re studying, is thought to be the invention of Switzerland’s Micro Mobility Systems. Micro Mobility Systems released their version of the modern scooter in 1996, which was by all means a pretty basic model. That said, this ‘new invention’ had enough flare to capture the attention of Carlton Calvin, a California-based entrepreneur, right around May of 1998.

While many of the companies from that era have gone bust, Razor is still around, and has revisited its original design for the electric scooter era. As perhaps the most prolific reviewer of e-bikes and e-scooters on the internet, I’m a rare breed of being a professional rider of weird little EVs. And so, while there were some razor electric scooter faults with the Razor EcoSmart Cargo, I could ride it just fine and get by. Let’s start with the Razor EcoSmart Cargo’s central motor. Despite proving to be a powerful and torquey setup with 1,000W of power, it sounds like a chain saw coming down the road. This is the loudest electric scooter motor I think I’ve ever heard.

With its 250-watt high-torque chain driven motor and super-sized deck this 24v scooter can reach speeds of up to 24km/h you’ll soon be leaving watching the scenery fly by and leaving other riders in the dust. Razor’s mechanism for folding the Icon is pretty simple and foolproof. You loosen and then pull a small lever at the base of the downtube to unlock the handlebars, which then swing down and lock into the stored position. It feels a lot more secure than on scooters which require you to latch the handlebars to the rear fender. Some 20 years ago, Razor invented the scooter craze with its simple, iconic aluminum scooter that quickly became an icon during the dot-com boom.
